How to remove wallpaper

Many people find it challenging when it comes to removing the wallpaper. And they are absolutely right. However, there are tips and steps that need to be followed so that removing it will not be that mind blowing.

Here are some tips on how to remove the wallpaper:

Things that you will be needing:

pump sprayer                               large sponge                                      scoring device

wide putty knife                          step stool or ladder                          fabric softener

drop cloth                                      screw driver                                      wallpaper steamer

trash bag

1. Prepare the work space – remove anything that may obstruct you while removing the wallpaper. Remove curtains, artwork and any outlet covers and switch plates. The drop cloth should be placed beneath the wall that you are going to work on. It is highly recommended to shut off the circuit breaker to avoid any accidents.

2. Prepare the solution that you are going to need – this solution will be needed for difficult wallpaper. To prepare the solution, you will use a 1:1 mixture of hot/boiling water and fabric softener.

3. Spray the walls with the solution – some wallpapers tend to be challenging to remove. Therefore spray the wall first with the solution to saturate the wallpaper. Do this section by section and remove the wallpaper when bubbles start to appear.

4. Remove the wallpaper – with the use of wide putty knife, scrape the wallpaper. Focus on the seams and bubbling sections first. Wallpaper that has been applied to primed walls would be easier to remove than those that were applied directly to plaster

5. Repeat the process – add more solution to saturate the wall and continue scraping. Repeat the process until the wallpaper has been completely removed.

6. Clean up the wall – use a sponge to wipe off excess and wallpaper remnants. Spray more solution if necessary. After these have been done, allow the wall to dry at least for two days before decorating it again.
