The 1990s have been loved by many because of its diverse contribution to the lives of individuals. For instance, the decade is full of catchphrases and new words that were adapted by many in their daily conversations, such as “wassup”, “as if”, getting jiggy with it” and many more. Music during the 90s had some of the best in the industry wherein bands and artists are on the rise and were very much popular worldwide. Who would forget Michael Jordan who took basketball to a higher level. The guy is a legend! Together with his greatness and made a reputation in their respective sports are mark McGwire, Wayne Gretsky and Tiger Woods. There were also numerous masterpieces when it comes to movies during the 90s. Films such as Independence Day, Toy Story, The Lion King, Home Alone, Matrix, and the list goes a long long way.

Basically, the 1990s is all about retreating from the fast paced 80s and getting back to basics. That is the focus of 1990s design. There were recession during that time, and people scaled back and toned down. The design reflected the disposition of the decade and interiors were calm, minimal and relaxing.

1. Floral wallpaper – many homeowners then would prefer to finish their walls with the use of wallpaper. It seems though, that many are not satisfied with paint alone and that the use of wallpaper would complete the interior of the house.

2. Wood flooring – light pine is commonly used in the 90s particularly as flooring. It is also known that the wood is not that expensive but still gives the effect and the style that other hardwood could give.

3. Beige and white – the 1990s is also known for its minimalism. Beige and white is one of the key features of minimalism where the colors are commonly seen in layers.

4. Wall-to-wall carpet – though hardwoods and wood plank has been widely used as flooring then, wall to wall carpet truly made its way in the interior design industry. Particularly if the color of the carpet is neutral such as beige or gray, then it will make the interior stylish and lively. Furniture and accessories will enhance the design of your interior.  

5. White kitchens – white color is widely used to represent hygiene and cleanliness. A white kitchen is on it come back and definitely entices you to use the kitchen at your own disposal.

6. Pastel colors – pastel colors were used in wide areas during the 90s. For instance painting the whole room with pastel yellow and have other matching colors as outline to add accent to the color of the room.

7. Skirted tables – tables with skirts and probably with a glass top were common those days. This is likewise resurfacing nowadays as a posh design.

8. Country accents – the contemporary country style is back together with modern elements such as high ceilings, metal accents, and large glass windows.

9. Blue and white accessories – blue and white were popular palettes during the 90s. They can also be classical in appearance.
