DIY – Fold a Christmas star of wallpaper

Making Christmas decorations out of wallpaper is a simple and effective Christmas craft. There are variants that are super fast to do and then there are others that require a little more time. Which ever you choose, it is definitely a decoration that sets the Christmas mood immediately. In this article we'll show you a few different examples.

Christmas star with points

Difficuly level
Medium

Time required
20-30 min

You need:

  • Wallpaper 45x100 cm
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Scissor
  • String
  • Stapler, glue or glue gun

Start by dividing the wallpaper into 3 equal lengths with a pencil. Since Photowall's wallpaper is 45 cm, each strip will be 15 cm. Along one long side, mark approx. 10 cm from the short side, and then mark every 20 cm.

Make markings every 20 cm along the long line closest to your other markings. Then draw a line between your markings to create a zigzag pattern. (See picture.)

Fold the entire wallpaper in the middle lengthwise with the motif inwards. This is what you do to be able to cut two exactly the same lengths. According to your lines and markings, cut off the tips through both layers of wallpaper.

Fold everything up so that your wallpaper looks like in the picture. Then fold an accordion fold from short side to short side.

Fold and tie a string in the middle. Glue or staple the open ends together to make a full circle.

Attach a fishing line or string to the top of a lace and hang it up. If you want to make a double-sided star, glue two wallpapers together with the back facing each other and use the same procedure.

Small star decoration

Difficulty level
Easy

Time required
15 min

You need:

  • Wallpaper or thick paper
  • Scissor or scalpel
  • String
  • Double-sided adhesive tape or quick-drying glue, for example a glue gun

To make small stars, you need a piece of wallpaper that is 5x45 cm. Make an accordion fold and cut a shape along the outer edge on one long side. Make a hole on the other side with a needle or similar and thread a string and tie the whole star together. Attach the star with double-sided adhesive tape and make holes in the top and insert string if you want to hang them. If you want a double-sided star, glue together two equal pieces of wallpaper with the back facing each other before you start to fold.

Speedy Christmas star

Time required
10 min

You need:

  • Wallpaper or thick paper
  • Scissor or scalpel
  • String
  • Double-sided adhesive tape or quick-drying glue, for example a glue gun

This star is done with celestial speed and it is a similar principle to the star with points. But here you do not need to measure or cut, you can move directly to the folding. You need a wallpaper that is about twice as long as wide.

Make an accordion fold from short side to short side. Here you can either fold small or large folds. It's a matter of taste and gives different character to the stars. Fold and tie a string in the middle and cut a shape along the outer edges. It can be rounded or straight. Do it your way!

Staple or glue the star together. Attach a string to the top and hang up.

Good luck with your Christmas crafts!
