Explore this easy way to bring high-impact art into your home. Use your favorite wallpaper or mural motif to create a framed statement. Follow our tutorial to learn everything you need to know.
What You Need
- Your wallpaper or mural of choice. Choose Peel and Stick for an easier installation with no dry time.
- An MDF panel, cut to your preferred measurements.
- Molding of your choice (we used an outside corner trim), cut to the length of the frame.
- Wood glue, small nails, and additional strips of wood for the back outline of the panel (for extra support if the piece is very heavy).
- Hammer, knife, mitre saw, corner clamps, and drill (depending on your wall type).
- Wood paint or stain for the frame. Cover paper. Brush.
- Hooks and fixings suitable for your wall and the weight of the piece.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. Apply the wallpaper to the panel, making sure to align the panels and smooth out any air bubbles. Trim any excess wallpaper. For the best result, let the Peel and Stick wallpaper lie flat on the floor for 48 hours prior to installation and bring a friend to help align the edge-to-edge seams.
2. Nail the wooden strips to the back of the panel, following the edges, if needed for extra support.
3. Cut the moldings to the length of the frame, joining them at a 45-degree angle in each corner. Glue the corners together and paint or stain the frame in your chosen color.
4. Carefully place the frame onto the artwork and secure it with nails.
5. Attach the hooks and fixings suitable for your wall and the weight of the piece, then hang it in place.
6. Enjoy your new artwork!
