Stina Wirsén

Stina Wirsén was born in 1968 in Stockholm and is one of Sweden's most renowned illustrators. She has worked as a professional illustrator since her graduation from the Konstfack UnivRead moreersity College of Arts, Crafts and Design in 1992. With experience from illustrating in all in all genres, Stina Wirsén is especially renowned for her children's books and for her fashion- and portrait illustrations.

Glowing watercolors meet vivid line drawings in Travel Stories

In 2019, Stina Wirsén together with Photowall created the collection Travel the World, a collection of line drawings depicting haute couture and street fashion from different parts of the world. Since 2018, Stina also has a number of watercolor motifs in the Watercolor collection (read more below) at Photowall, but the two worlds - the line drawings and the watercolors - have not met until now.

The collaboration between Stina Wirsén and Photowall now continues with the new collection Travel Stories, which combines Stina's characteristic fashion drawings with city illustrations, and puts the vivid line drawings in combination with the glowing watercolors.

Children books by Stina Wirsén

Stina Wirsén has written and illustrated many children’s books such as the Brokiga and Vem?/Who? series. The books have been translated into fifteen languages, and she has been awarded several prizes, among them Expressen’s Heffaklumpen Cultural Prize ward for children's literature, the Elsa Beskow Prize and Nordiska Tecknare's award. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including USA, Germany, India and Japan.

Stina Wirsén is also known for her illustrations in the national newspaper Dagens Nyheter, for which she has received several awards. Her style can be described as a minimalistic, yet powerful and expressive.

For Photowall, Stina Wirsén has created playful and colorful wallpaper collections based on the famous children’s books - The Brokiga collection launched in 2012, and Vem?/Who? collection released in 2015.

The Watercolor wallpaper collection is the latest wallpaper collection for children, inspired by nature and a child’s way of looking at the world. The illustrations from the Watercolor collection was specially created for the children's ward of the Nya Karolinska (The New Karolinska Hospital) in Stockholm in 2018, and is now a part of Photowall’s standard product range.
